1 Peter 3:15 (NASB95)
15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;
The Apostle Peter wrote this passage of Scripture to encourage Christians who were going through a time of difficulties. Peter’s point was that believers in Christ Jesus should face adversity differently from non-believers. The Christians’ response to the challenge should be so uniquely set apart (sanctify), it would cause observers to wonder why. Peter advise them to be ready to defend their action to those who were negative and to witnesses to those who were positive (give an account).
The difficulties of COVID-19 have affected many people in different ways, mostly negatively. But like Peter’s audience, we should respond in a way that will glorify Jesus. We should be ready to stand up for our beliefs and look for opportunities to witnesses to non-Christians. But in both cases, we need to do it with “gentleness and reverence.”
