Psalm 4:1 (English Standard Version)
Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!
The prayer in this verse by King David could be the same prayer many of us would pray today. The Psalm was motivated by crisis which caused David to verbally cry out for help.
Even though God came to his rescue in times past, David did not take God’s grace for granted. He acknowledged that God had delivered him before, but each time of distress is different and requires new mercy.
God’s Word for today teaches us that we will face many adversities along our Christian journey. But experiencing God's merciful deliverance in the past gives us hope as we encounter new difficulties in the future. Still, we should never assume that God will act in our favor without us petitioning Him.
As we continue to deal with all the negativity of our social climate, natural disasters, and national health crisis, we need to ask God to please hear our prayer. Whenever we need Him, He is always right there.
