James 1:27 (New Living Translation)
Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.
The conservative, religious right supporters are vehemently opposed to certain sins prevalent in our society. But their views are often rooted in their ideology and not biblical theology. Ideology is a form of social or political philosophical viewpoints, in contrast to theology, which is God's nature according to the Bible.
One can have moral values without biblical conviction. They can have a religious agenda without having human compassion. When this becomes the standard of their belief system, we have politics of religion that consists of a “by any means necessary” mentality.
In God’s Word for today, the writer James defines what religion means in God’s sight. Even though they were written under the Holy Ghost's inspiration, James' words would not be popular to the conservatives or liberals in our nation’s capital. James' theology called for an agenda that is concerned for the people, not the ideology of politics.
A clean and undefiled religion is one in which one’s conduct and character are disciplined in accordance with God’s Word. Until our political leaders become led by biblical theology and not political ideology, their religion in the sight of God is corrupt.
