1 Peter 1:6–7 (HCSB)
6 You rejoice in this, though now for a short time you have had to struggle in various trials 7 so that the genuineness of your faith —more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire —may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
The Apostle Peter wrote this passage to Christians who were going through difficult times of persecution. He reminded them that the “joy of the LORD” is not diminished by circumstances. Instead, times of suffering should be viewed as opportunities to express joy, because they test (purify) our faith. Stressful times deepen and strengthen our faith and prove that our faith in Jesus is the REAL THING!
