Psalm 43:5 ESV (English Standard Version)
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God.
I was taught in my Christian clinical family therapist course to help the client to get in touch with their feelings. But this is easier said than done. Have you ever experienced being depressed, but you didn’t know why? We can imagine this is the way the writer of God’s Word for today must have felt.
By asking “why,” he admits feeling down but could not figure out the reason for his feelings. The fact that he asked the same thing three times, twice in Psalm 42 and again in Psalm 43, shows that it must have been a time of overwhelming emotions of sorrow.
But despite what the psalmist was going through, he refused to lose hope. The word salvation is better understood as deliverer. He trusted that somehow, some way, God would come to his rescue.
