Psalm 62:1-2, 5-6 ESV
1 For God alone my soul waits in silence;
    from him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
    for my hope is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be shaken.

PASTOR’S COMMENTARY

As my wife was praying for us on the Fourth of July, she said something profound. She gave thanks to God for our earthly independence, but more importantly, she gave thanks for our spiritual dependence. Many times we depend too much on other people and other things.

Being dependent on God implies trust, reliance, and confidence. When we get spiritually independent, we are relying upon our own strength, intellect, and expertise, which often fails. But our dependence upon God gives us assurance because He is “able to do abundantly more” than we ever could.

In God’s Word for today, King David expressed confidence in God only. He vowed not just to wait, but to wait in silence. In other words, David refused to complain about God’s time of deliverance. He was not going to run and tell others about his problems.

David knew that his help was coming from God alone. When God is ALL you got, He is all you NEED!
