Psalm 73:25–26 (ESV)
25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

PASTOR’S COMMENTARY

Most of you have probably heard the saying, “age ain’t nothing but a number.” I seriously doubt if the person who coined the phrase was an older person. Aging affects the body, mind, soul, and spirit. But the process of aging can be a wonderful thing. For me, like the writer of God’s Word for today, it teaches me to appreciate the past and look forward to the future.

From our youth, all of us have dreams and aspirations in life. More often than not, our desires are centered around the “here and now.” But when we have lived more days than we have left, we tend to reflect on life from a different perspective.

The psalmist expressed that viewpoint. Life had taught him a valuable lesson; only his relationship with the LORD mattered. Aging had taken its toll on him physically, but he had grown stronger spiritually.

Yes, age ain’t nothing but a number. A number that brings you closer to God. How many numbers do you have left?
