Psalm 71:5 CSB (Christian Standard Bible)

For you are my hope, Lord God, my confidence from my youth.

Pastor's Commentary

Aging has a way of naturally increasing my dependency upon the LORD. When I first surrendered my life to Christ in my youthful zeal, I thought I could, and wanted to do many things in His service. I understood that I needed God’s power to get things done. But my dependency was in my physical, mental and spiritual strength.

However, the blessing of living a long life has revealed that I need the LORD’s help in all three areas. As my steps get shorter, my mind wanders, and my spirit gets low at times, I sense my need for the LORD more.

But through the years, I have gained wisdom. My experience of highs and lows taught me that the hope I had in my younger days has strengthened over time. So, regardless of the limitations, aches, and pains of aging, I have hope knowing that I can still trust God. I have come this far by faith.
