Psalm 25:4–5 KJV (King James Version)

Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.  Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: For thou art the God of my salvation; On thee do I wait all the day.

Pastor's Commentary

Psalm 25 focuses on the character of God that prompts a humble response of confession and prayer. In God’s Word for today, King David seeks the LORD for divine instructions. The inspiration for David’s request is not known. But what the king asks is worth examining.

David asked the LORD to give him instructions (ways), direction (path), and integrity (truth). But notice that the king asked the LORD to teach him again. The Hebrew word is associated with training. It is the process of gaining beneficial information that results in a proper response to all situations.

David’s request was not self-centered; his desire was to please the LORD. The same principle applies to us today. If we want to please the LORD, we must learn more about Him. Sunday school, Bible study, and worship service are methods to teach God’s people about Him. This is the purpose of Christian Education and Faith Development. It is free and available for those who desire to be taught.
