Jeremiah 3:18 ESV (English Standard Version)
In those days the house of Judah shall join the house of Israel, and together they shall come from the land of the north to the land that I gave your fathers for a heritage.

PASTOR’S COMMENTARY

Most of Jeremiah’s prophecies deal with the doom of judgment upon God’s stubborn, rebellious people. But throughout the book, God provides a ray of hope. The purpose of God's chastening was designed to cause His people to repent and return to Him.

The sin of the nation caused disunity and division among the people of God. But in this passage, God spoke through the prophet of a time when He would bring the nation together as one again.

The division in our nation is vast, even among Christians. We share vastly different viewpoints on wearing masks, vaccination, and voting rights. Some even disagree on things clearly addressed in the Bible, such as sexual orientation and abortion.

God’s Word for today is a call for those in our nation who profess to believe that Jesus is LORD to come together. We have said from early childhood that we are “One nation under God.” Liberty and justice cannot come until we are under God’s rule and authority.
