Galatians 5:16–17 ESV (English Standard Version)

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

Pastor's Commentary

The power of the Holy Ghost allows us to live a life of victory over the flesh. Without His indwelling presence, we would experience not only a lack of strength but also a loss of direction. In the same way, our physical bodies need food and water to sustain natural life; we must be nourished by God’s Spirit to live a spiritual life.

However, we must allow the Spirit full access to every part of our being to have complete victory. To deny entry to certain areas grieve Him because He wants what’s best for us.

His desire is for us to draw nearer to Him, and He will then draw closer to us. Knowing His Word brings us into an intimate relationship with Him. The Bible is more than just a religious book about God. It’s Jesus’ love letter to us.
